Daniel Zaretsky
Daniel Zaretsky is a global professional who has many years experience living abroad and working in and around the private, government and NGO sectors. Currently, Mr. Zaretsky is based both in Uzbekistan and his native USA and is Global Advisor, Tashkent, for the Global Chamber. Global Chamber supports exporting, importing and cross-border investment in 525 metros around the world. Previously, in Tajikistan, Mr. Zaretsky was a Member of the Board of Directors of AmCham Tajikistan, the American Chamber of Commerce, where he was involved with international trade and investment issues and where he also sat on the Secretariat of the Extractive Resources Transparency Initiative (EITI) Tajikistan (AmChams exist in approximately 100 countries and EITI works in approximately 40 countries). Mr. Zaretsky is also Founder and Country Host of Global Entrepreneurship Week Tajikistan (GEW). GEW takes place in 180 countries and is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. GEW’s 2014 Campaign was nominated for the Best Rookie Country award by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN). Mr. Zaretsky is also a Country Pricing Analyst for Mercer, the world’s largest human resources consulting company. Previously, Mr. Zaretsky received his BA in Anthropology from the University of Michigan and his MBA and MIA (Master of International Affairs) degrees from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and SIPA (School of International and Public Affairs), respectively. At SIPA, he specialized in Eurasia at the Harriman Institute. Mr. Zaretsky also has a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from SIT (School of International Training). In addition, Mr. Zaretsky has been employed in city government as a Project Planner at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operations and in administration at Indiana University where he managed large grants. He has also taught at Bronx Community College. In the 1990s, he twice worked in Kyrgyzstan, the first time, teaching English and assisting the USAID Mass Privatization project, and the second time, interning for a fund that invested in small- and medium-sized businesses. Mr. Zaretsky speaks Russian and Persian/Dari/Tajik and has basic knowledge of the Turkic languages, particularly Uzbek and Turkish. He is passionate about bringing new products and services to new markets, regional trade, international entrepreneurship, the SDGs, the New Silk Road and connecting people across cultures.
