By 2022 crowdsourcing has transformed from popular but obscure fad to everyday occurrence. Millions of voluntary experts from the four corners of the globe are carried away with assistance to companies and organizations able to awake other people’s interest in their values and the tasks they need to complete.
The use of crowdsourcing in the decision-making process has become a standard of corporate governance and affects directly the capitalization of public companies.
It has become conventional among specialists and managers to state participation as public experts in crowdsourcing projects in their CVs.
Moreover, some of these public experts have become true fans of the companies for which they had made recommendations in the network of crowdsourcing. Such fans create communities where the members are similar to football fans as per emotional perception of what happens with “their” companies.
However, crowdsourcing is not laid away even in football. According to Russian Football Union’s experiment national team is formed on the basis of fans’ recommendations. It still concerns unofficial matches though. Nevertheless malicious tongues joke that after Hiddink, Advocaat and Capello there are no means to invite a new coach that is why fans are engaged :-)
Crowdsourcing has helped many companies become outstanding indeed. More than 30 enterprises among 100 companies with largest market cap use crowdsourcing technologies. Their example is indispensable as there were certain failures. Inability to make the right choice among alternatives presented by public experts has led some entrepreneurs to bankruptcy. Their example has shown that crowdsourcing is not the panacea, but a strong instrument which needs to be used properly.
Crowdfunding has become the most popular source of finance and investment attraction especially for startups. The volume of crowdfunding industry has rised considerably so that it provoked discussion among monetary authorities from various states whether this market needs special regulation.
Certain influent companies specializing in organization of crowdsourcing projects have appeared. Their role is compared to the role of investment bankers in M&A transactions: one can manage without them but their participation is a common practice. Some of these companies specialize in individual work with huge corporations and others have begun to create platforms for a broad circle of businessmen.
A lot of new words based on the word “crowd” have been coined. The most popular one is “crowdmentoring” introduced by Alexey Barkov, one of OmniGrade’s top managers which means constant and long term use of crowdsourcing in a company. Eo ipso crowdmentoring is a crowdsourcing that never ends.
